Lessons Learned the Long Way Round

It’s almost the end of the month. Eras have come to a close. Summer for example… Up and left. My contract is just about done. My bunk bed is on its way out. People have come and gone. I’ve been home and back again. And every day is dishing up some scolding new secrets to success. And as per usual. I’m learning the hard way.

Here we go.

1- I’m Australian. Not just because of my hair and green eyes. But because of my choices my values my aspirations. And that doesn’t make me any less Fijian. Or unique.

2- I can’t fix everything. The dishwasher at work for example. (I’m just not cut out for plumbing or mechanics.) Marriages that aren’t mine, boys who can’t see the bliss, stained woolen jumpers, teenagers everywhere and losing homes to divorce. These are things I can not fix.

3- Leaving the bread out will attract ants. It’s not going to be any different the 100th time you do it. You have not fooled them by putting it on top of the microwave.

4- I am not an idea. Don’t mistake the flowers in my hair for a manifestation of your eclectic gypsy dream-girl. I’m going to be frustrating sometimes. For example, somewhere just off Bondi Road there is an old lady cursing. “Why does that behemoth keep f***ing stealing my magnolias????” (🌺🌸🌺🌸😜)

5- Really the only thing good about ‘The Voice’ is the blind auditions. The rest is really a bit of a yawn fest. Maybe take it off series link.

6- When you send out a text saying “It’s over I just left his house and am in a cab” and within 10 minutes you see the worlds most beautiful beings power walking towards you, with a clear schedule, a pack of cigs and stories to make you belly laugh…. It’s very very hard to feel alone.

7- I’m still very much afraid of sharks. Even though I pretend not to be.

8- Cutting up your clothes does not make you a designer. It makes you an idiot.

9- Getting older is great.

10- Arguments don’t have to be scary. They don’t all have to have sad endings. They can be great in fact. Especially the ones you don’t win. Because those are the ones that invoke improvement.

Love you all. Enjoy the sun. Keep it light. (Dance around a little bit…)
