I had the pleasure of sitting down with the Beyond The Narrative team late last year to talk all things love and life, grief and my enthusiasm for ideas as big as the sky.
To be honest, when I knew the podcast was coming out, I got a little nervous! I couldn’t remember exactly what we chatted about, but I knew we got deep about being afraid to love after grief, feeling caught between cultures and how much I resented those causing the climate crisis.
Then listening to it yesterday, I started to rip myself apart. As most of us do. I was talking too fast, getting my facts wrong, divulging too much.
About a quarter of the way through, instead of listening to myself, I decided to listen to what Fenton said he saw when he saw me.
It is so easy to forget who we are, when we are busy always trying to be better. Sometimes we need to hear it from someone else.
“Mati and I have known each other for 5 to 6 years now, working on specifically Climate Justice and what Climate Justice could look like in the Pacific and how Matisse just described herself right now is exactly how she is. Mati is the one who will have the “let’s do this big thing!”, like “there is no stars”, “let’s just aim”, “let’s just do it!” And it has been such a gift to the movement. We need people who literally come from the sky, and believe in the skies and live in the skies. That is the most authentic description of Matisse that I can think of. Part of moving through the world that way, or moving through the skies that way, has been dreaming up so many projects to keep her going.”
Once I shifted focus, I realised this podcast should make me really proud of all that I have achieved over the past few years!
It also makes me really excited for the next chapter and what is in store. New big ideas. Hopefully some of yours. There are bright things coming. I can feel it. I honestly can’t wait to recreate the world with you all.
Big love.
